portrait purchance?

stumbled across an apparent self portrait in a sketchbook from 2008/2009 and noticed that this look looked familiar...it appears that I may be developing a wardrobe consisting mainly of bow ties and crazy printed shirts

Nate the great

SO EXCITED to see my little brother, Nate, who is home on summer class break this week.  I like him quite a lot, not only because he is my little brother, but also because we just so happen to get along famously and he does lots of cool stuff like...
T         H         I         S    (that's him)
T         H         I         S    (he made it)
T         H         I         S    (he took it)
&       T         H         I         S    (he schemed it up)
Whenever he ventures home we have at least one good night of staying up ridiculously late discussing dreams, bouncing around ideas, and scribbling up schemes in our sketchbooks.  I can't wait :)

periwinkle please

hanging out with my old friend gouache the other day, painting color chips, searching for the perfect shade of periwinkle blue (and taking a few detours to doodle, of course)

get seen

A belated thank you to Stuff Magazine for the style spotlight at the fabulous Proxy Earth Day celebration.

(And a big thank you to Artifaktori and Great Eastern Trading Co. for always providing me with endless opportunities to fill my dream closet)

pattern play: stamping study

Now that I've reconfigured my studio situation, I am excited to get back into printing on fabric.  Here are a few experimental pieces I did (with the help of my guy) when I only had two colors to play with.  Although I am quite partial to blue, I tend to get a little greedy with color (there can never be too much!), so I was quite happy to find my back ordered inks had finally arrived on my doorstep this Friday.  Time for another stamping extravaganza!

flashback

I am working from my parents' home studio today as my working space is even more of a mess right now... I've spent the last week swapping everything in my teeny tiny studio with (almost) everything in my giant bedroom, so after the last few pieces fall into place, I will have a giant new studio!  It is a much needed change...art making is no fun in cramped quarters!  For the past year my studio has acted as more of an "art closet" while my projects gradually crawl onto the kitchen counters...the kitchen table...the living room couch...  I cannot tell you how excited I am to finally have a human-sized dedicated art space that gets beautiful light and has plenty of space for both supplies and work tables.  Hopefully this will mean much more production of my own special stuff and not just client work.  I cant wait to show you the results!  In the meantime, here are a few relics I uncovered while rummaging around in my childhood bedroom.  Its amazing how much art work has accumulated over time....here's to much much more!

back in the saddle again

After a lovely long weekend away with dear friends in New York City, I am back in my beautiful mess of a studio, refreshed and full of ideas.  Now for the hard part...figuring out where to start...
