Artifaktori & Me

designed and illustrated by me!  based on an earlier sketch I did for an ad that was never developed
It is with great pride (and exhaustion) that I announce the grand opening of Artifaktori's second location in Beacon Hill, Boston.  It is amazing to think that it has been three years since I first wandered into the original shop over in Davis Square.  The racks were jammed together in slight disarray and the window was piled so high with stuff that you couldn't see inside, but for me it was love at first sight.  After becoming a regular that first summer in 2008, Amy (the owner) asked if I would like to help out around the shop.  I jumped at the chance!  I was her very first employee.  My first day I organized the whole basement of stored inventory and Amy was thrilled.  My second day I redid the entire window display with blue glass jars spilling over with silver accessories and dresses dancing across the door and she was even more thrilled.  From then on I became Amy's right hand man.  I did the displays, I redesigned her (now well known) logo, and together we redesigned the store layout and rack system and threw our first few parties.  I offered my opinion on buying trips and my muscles at the local markets she set up at (which eventually turned into not so local markets, like Brimfield and Manhattan Vintage Show....my muscles have grown a considerable amount over this time).  Then I began creating advertisements (which seemed to be a hit), and started a new blog, a facebook page and eventually a website and an etsy shop.  Amy and I worked together to style the looks and gather the models for our photoshoots and a few local fashion shows that soon followed.  Along the way we gathered a some more employees (all talented artists in their own right) whom I've had the pleasure of working with.  This winter I was thrilled to help her on her biggest adventure yet...opening a second location!
We really put our blood, sweat and tears into the new space.  From scrubbing the floors to painting the doors, designing the sign to designing the store layout, I was involved in almost every aspect of the planning for Artifaktori on Charles.  I have been honored to be a part of this unique experience, to work with and meet so many inspiring people and be a part of a creative team that is truly like no other.  Congrats to Amy and everyone who worked so hard to bring this new space to life!  I am so lucky to have you all in my life.

While it is rare that you will find me behind the shop counter these days, I will continue to add my touch behind the scenes and I will certainly be present at the grand opening party tomorrow night from 6-9pm.  Any of you in the Boston area should stop on by....121 Charles will be packed with fabulous folks in their favorite vintage finery, retro tunes will be spinning on the turntable, wine and snacks will be served and of course the vintage will be outstanding.

the days are just packed

as you may be able to decipher through my day planner doodles, life has been crazy lately.  I will be a little out of touch the next week, but I promise many colorful spring updates in the near future!

score big

for some reason, this looks a little blurry, but take a gander below to spy the true spotted effect
Apologies for being a little MIA lately....I've been spending most of my days doing this, and most of my nights designing logos (logo work always seems to come in waves), leaving little time for updates!  But, I wanted to take a moment to share my latest design for the official invite to the annual Fenway CDC Ball.  It's always fun to have a challenge....with only one color allowed(besides black and white), I had to get creative...enter (tiny)dots!

in spirit

So sad to miss the biggest party on my calendar this month (my party dress may be even sadder)!!  I guess there is such thing as a spring fever.  Spirited magazine celebrates their third issue tonight at the Bullfinch Hotel in downtown Boston.  Congrats to all of the talented folks that make every issue possible...I am toasting you in spirit from my new home, the couch ;)
